If you don't get in shape and do enough training before a race, this can happen very easily and with only about one or two minutes warning. When your intestines aren't used to the motions of long-distance running, they will get irritated, inflamed and then they will purge themselves involuntarily.

For me, the urge lays off a little if you stop running and stand still a few minutes. The worst thing to do is to try to run to the bathroom, if it is far away.

Now thats a competitive spirit... shat on himself to discourage competitors from getting close enough to him to pass. It's cheap... but a guaranteed 1st place finish.
